PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method capable of separately measuring tension of a plurality of ropes structuring a main rope of an elevator. SOLUTION: This device 100 includes: device bodies 11, 12 and 13 to be held by a worker; a pair of abutment parts 14a and 14b provided in the device body so as to abut on the surface of a rope at two positions with an interval along the longitudinal direction of the rope; and a scale 17 supported by the device body and having an engagement part 19 to be engaged with the rope to measure a load to be required to bend the rope stretching between the abutment parts into a V-shape by pulling the rope toward this side in the vertical direction. After finishing the measurement of the load over the whole of the plurality of ropes, tension of the plurality of ropes can be adjusted to be equal by operating a hitch part locking each rope based on the obtained load value.
