PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting abnormality in a mold for continuous casting which can stably perform a casting operation to produce a slab of high quality, and further can achieve the elongation of the service life of the mold, and a mold for continuous casting. SOLUTION: Using a mold for continuous casting in which a water-cooled copper plate is fixed to a back plate 12 with a plurality of fastening bolts 13, 14, strain gauges 18, 19 are charged to one or more of the plurality of fastening bolts 13, 14, and, since stress generated in the fastening bolts 13, 14 during the casting operation is monitored, the casting operation can be stably performed to produce a slab of high quality, and further, the service life of the mold can be elongated.
