Hammer impression arrangements; flexible shields.-A printing mechanism comprises at least one type wheel 12, a printing hammer 20 and a web of record material 32, which is fed in a looped path between the hammer and the type wheel, with a flexible rubber shield 26 mounted on a resilient plate 28, interposed between the upper and lower web portions of the loop at the printing area, so that as the impact force of the hammer is transmitted through the lower web portion to effect impression of the upper web portion, the pressure on the former is evenly distributed over the entire area of the hammer by the shield and no impression is produced on the lower web portion. Web feeding and guiding arrangements.-The web, which may be single or multi-ply, is fed over a guide bracket 30 between an ink ribbon 38 and the shield 26 and then reversed around a first idler roller 40 and advanced between the hammer and shield over second and third idler rollers 42, 44 respectively and through a driving means including a driving roller 46 and a tension roller 48. Carbon papers and like transfer materials.- The single or top sheet of the multi-ply web may be of the type in which all the ingredients for producing a legible mark are contained in the sheet itself, either by way of a coating or impregnation, so that pressure of the type character will produce the impression. In the case of a multi-ply web the duplicate marking may be accomplished by a carbon backing on the preceding sheet, by interleaved carbon sheets, or by a carbonless transfer system type of paper. |
