PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head having increased linear recording density and track density; and to provide a disk device equipped with the same. SOLUTION: The magnetic head for disk device is provided with: a main pole 66 which comprise a tip 66a facing a recording medium 12 and generates a recording magnetic field; a return pole 68 which faces the trailing side of the main pole with a write gap therebetween, and returns a magnetic flux from the main pole to form a magnetic circuit with the main pole; a coil which excites the magnetic flux to the magnetic circuit formed by the main pole and the return pole; a spin torque oscillator 90 which is provided between facing surfaces of the main pole and the return pole, and generates a high-frequency magnetic field; and a side shield 70 which is provided on both sides of the main pole in the direction of a track width magnetically apart from the main pole with respect to the spin torque, and is provided at a height position higher than that of the spin torque oscillator.
