Method of designing a tyre intended to be mounted on the drive axle of a heavy goods vehicle, this tyre having a nominal sidewall height F and comprising a tread (1) having, in the new state, a maximum total width Lo of maximum contact with the ground and being provided with at least four circumferential grooves (2) each having a certain width and each extending between the running surface of the tread and a groove bottom, these grooves (2) delimiting three intermediate ribs (3) and two edge ribs (4) axially limiting said tread, each edge rib (4) having two lateral walls (401, 402), one of these lateral walls, called the internal lateral wall, having a height PREp measured from the bottom of the groove (2') delimiting said edge rib, this internal lateral wall having, seen in section in a plane containing the rotation axis, an inclination DEp, each edge rib having a width LEp that is larger than the width of each of the intermediate ribs, this design method consisting in iteratively determining values of the dimensions LEp, PREp and DEp that satisfy the following equation: P(LEp, DEp, PREp) < 1.105769231 × F, where P(LEp, DEp, PREp) = -303.528 - 2.00675 × LEp + 10.2755 × DEp + 81.0414 × PREp - 0.052551 × LEp2 -0.0825991 × LEp x DEp + 0.225564 × LEp × PREp - 0.111262 × DEp2 - 0.209215 × DEp x PREp - 2.5831 × PREp2. Tyre intended to be mounted on the drive axle of a heavy goods vehicle, the edge rib widths and the lateral wall angles of which are predetermined.
|
