PURPOSE: A portable terminal including touch panels and an operating method thereof are provided to lower manufacturing cost and reduce the load of a CPU by controlling the touch panels with one touch controller. CONSTITUTION: The first touch panel(140) is formed on some surface of a portable terminal and is comprised of a touch sensor. The second touch panel(150) is formed in the other surface of the portable terminal and is comprised of the touch sensor. A touch controller(182) comprises a plurality of ports. The port is connected to the touch sensor of the first touch panel. The other port is connected to the touch sensor of the second touch panel. The touch controller successively scans the first and the second touch panel, and recognizes a touch input from the first and the second touch panel.
