PURPOSE: A repeater for preventing power from being excessively generated by a gain compensation function and a control method thereof are provided to inactivate a gain compensation function when amplitudes of an input signal and an output signal get smaller than a set value to reset an attenuation power level of an attenuator at a predetermined reference value, thereby preventing excessive power due to input of a sudden input signal. CONSTITUTION: An attenuator(121) attenuates an input signal at a predetermined power level. A power detecting unit(170) detects a power level of the input signal or the output signal. If the detected power level gets smaller than the first setting value, a gain compensation function unit(140) is inactivated. The gain compensation function unit compensates for a gain about an amplifying unit. If the detected power level gets smaller than the second setting value, a gain compensation function control unit(150) inactivates a gain compensation function unit. |
