<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gradation conversion apparatus and method by which partial contrast is appropriately adjusted, with contrast balance of a whole image being adjusted by using an arbitrary gradation conversion property. <P>SOLUTION: This gradation conversion apparatus used for converting the gradation of an original image is equipped with: a signal obtaining unit 12; a neighborhood processing unit 13, a gain generator 14; and a gradation conversion unit 15. The signal obtaining unit 12 extracts or generates a signal Z[i, j] from a pixel [i, j] of the original image. The neighborhood processing unit 13 generates a signal ZL[i, j] related to a neighborhood area of the pixel [i, j]. The gain generation unit 14 determines a conversion gain k of the pixel [i, j] corresponding to the signal Z[i, j] and the signal ZL[i, j]. The gradation conversion unit 15 performs gradation conversion by multiplying either the color component of the pixel [i, j] or the signal component generated from the color component by the conversion gain k of the pixel [i, j]. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT</p> |
