<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for placing an optical information reader having a plurality of kinds of shapes. <P>SOLUTION: The placing base 10 holds two optical information readers having the same shape of lower cases of reading parts and having different shapes of upper cases. A second wall part 12 is detachably provided with an attachment 40 such that the attachment 40 is interposed between an upper case 102b and the second wall part 12 to hold the reading part 102 by the attachment 40 and a first wall part 11 when the reading part 102 of a first reader 100a engages.
