PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanical pencil which is equipped with a rotary drive mechanism for gradually rotating a writing lead on account of the reciprocating motion of the writing lead under writing pressure, and has an imparted damper function to the forward/backward movement of the writing lead. SOLUTION: This mechanical pencil is constituted as follows. The rotary drive mechanism for gradually rotating the writing lead according to the reciprocating motion of the writing lead under writing pressure, is incorporated. Further, the damper function is given by interposing an adhesive medium between a cylinder member 30 and a torque canceller 31 which constitute part of the rotary drive mechanism. The adhesive medium injected into a space part 30c from an injection orifice 30b under such a condition as shown by (A), causes the torque canceller 31 to be slightly thrust in, as shown in (B). In this state, the injection hole 30b and the space part 30c are shut off by the torque canceller 31, resulting in an almost closed state in the space part 30c. After that, the torque canceller 31 is further thrust in as indicated by (C), and the adhesive medium can be uniformly spread into the gap between the torque canceller 31 and the cylinder member 30.
