PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve practical system efficiency in a heat source system, which applies a constitution obtained by connecting a plurality of refrigerating machines in series. SOLUTION: In this heat source system which includes a group of refrigerating machines including a first refrigerating machine and a second refrigerating machine, and in which pipes are arranged so the flows of cold water and cooling water supplied to the group of refrigerating machines have counter flow states, when an operation for keeping a temperature of the supplied cold water at a prescribed temperature regardless of fluctuation of output load borne by the group of refrigerating machines, is performed, the first refrigerating machine and the second refrigerating machine are controlled so that the smaller the output load is reduced in comparison with a rated output load, the more a cold water flow rate is increased in comparison with a rated cold water flow rate. Further the number of refrigerating machines to be operated is controlled to be not two but one, under a condition that it is expected that the output load per one refrigerating machine is more than a rated output.
