PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately grasp the number of containers, by photographing a large number of containers transferred in multiple rows and in a random manner with a camera and by counting them. SOLUTION: Two cameras are mounted on a photographic conveyer, and the containers which are being transferred are photographed. An photographed image is sent to an image processing unit 18 of a controller 16 and is binarized, in which the central coordinates of a cap is calculated and stored in a storage unit 20. Prior to the moving of a container by the diameter of the cap, next image is photographed through an instruction from an instruction unit 22 of the control apparatus 16. The center coordinates of the cap of the image are calculated also and are compared with the previous coordinates data stored in the storage unit, and the moved position of the container is recognized by a moved position recognizing unit 28. Since next photographing is performed prior to the movement by an amount corresponding to the size of the cap, new and old pieces of information on the same container can be linked without fail, thereby allowing the number of containers to be counted accurately from among the photographed images.
