PHOSPHOR BASED ILLUMINATION SYSTEM HAVING LONG PASS REFLECTOR, AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illumination system including a light source, an optical waveguide containing an output surface, an emissive material arranged between the light source and the output surface of the optical waveguide, and an interference reflector arranged between the emissive material and the output surface.

SOLUTION: The light source emits light having first optical characteristics. The emissive material emits light having second optical characteristics when it is illuminated by the light having the first optical characteristics. The interference reflector transmits substantially the light having the second optical characteristics and reflects substantially the light having the first optical characteristics.
