<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To develop a direct recycling system of CO<SB>2</SB>using only sunlight energy based on the chemical technologies that human beings have developed and accumulated as a short and medium term measure in order to meet the situations where advancement in the life style of human beings constantly increases the amount of CO<SB>2</SB>on the earth, simple substitution, improved energy-saving technologies, separation of CO<SB>2</SB>, emission trading, and so forth do not offer fundamental solutions, and there is not enough time to wait for breakthroughs in scientific technologies such as artificial photosynthesis. <P>SOLUTION: Sunlight condensed by a group of Fresnel lenses capable of condensing light up to the ultraviolet region is transmitted to a gasification furnace through a total reflection-type quartz hollow fiber and quartz rod. A mixture comprising CO<SB>2</SB>, H<SB>2</SB>O, coal, biomass, waste plastics, etc is irradiated directly from around with the condensed sunlight passing through the wall of the furnace, which causes decomposition of chemical bonds, excitation of molecules, promotes high temperature gasification reaction, and gives out synthesis gas (CO+H<SB>2</SB>) without using a catalyst and generating tar. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
