The actuator (10) has three sets of electric lines (22a, 22b, 24a, 24b, 26a, 26b) provided between a power supply terminal (20) and a switching unit (16), between an energy storage (14) and the switching unit and between the switching unit and an actuating element (18). The switching unit connects the set of the electric lines between the energy storage and the switching unit to the actuating element over the set of the electric lines between the switching unit and the actuating element when voltage applied at the terminal is disconnected such that the actuating element moves in a direction. An independent claim is also included for a method for opening and closing a valve.
