PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for holding the standby number of components, capable of holding the standby number of components even when a component supply passage is inclined in any direction. SOLUTION: The device for holding the standby number of components are provided for supplying components 5 from a component delivery device 56 to a forward/backward movable supply rod 1. It includes a sensor 31 arranged for holding the standby number of the components for the supply rod 1 as predetermined when the component supply passage 23 is lower at the side of the supply rod 1 than at the opposite side, and a component movement preventing means 63 arranged on the component supply passage 23 at a position isolated from the sensor 31 to the opposite side to the supply rod 1 for preventing the reverse movement of the components when the component supply passage 23 is higher at the side of the supply rod 1 than the opposite side. The component movement preventing means 63 permits the movement of the components when the component supply passage 23 is lower at the side of the supply rod 1 than at the opposite side, and prohibits the movement of the components when the component supply passage 23 is higher at the side of the supply rod 1 than at the opposite side.
