PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a spherical multi-branched structure molecule derivative, suitable for using a retaining main body of an effective substance-retaining body. SOLUTION: A spherical multi-branched structure molecule is dehydrated, and the spherical multi-branched structure molecule after the dehydration treatment is reacted with anα-sulfo-aliphatic acid or anα-sulfo-aliphatic ester represented by formula (I) of 0.3 to 0.8 equivalent to the whole hydroxide group of the spherical multi-branched structure molecule, at 80°C to 150°C for 4 to 8 hours to obtain the spherical multi-branched structure molecule derivative. In formula (I), R<SB>1</SB>is a 6-20C alkyl or alkenyl group; R<SB>2</SB>is hydrogen or a 1-3C straight-chain or branched-chain alkyl group; and M is an alkaline metal, an alkaline earth metal or hydrogen.
