Described is a room temperature self-crosslinkable adhesive for wood constituted by copolymer particles and formed by units from the vinyl acetate monomer at a ratio of 30% to 90%, units of one or several acrylic monomers such as butyl acrylate or 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate in a ratio of 5% to 65% by weight, monomers and units from the bifunctional monomer 3-isopropenyl-a,a-dimethyl benzyl isocianate, TMI, in a ratio of from about 0.5% to 20% by weight, the whole components regarding the total mixture of the monomer. The adhesive may be prepared by free radical polymerization using an emulsion, suspension and mini emulsion polymerization or any other type of polymerization in heterophase, which allows a water-dispersed polymer to be obtained. The polymer particles may be stabilised by one or more types of surfactants.
