<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To transmit data even without monitoring the number of times of wavelength conversion. <P>SOLUTION: A framing device (114) of an optical transmitting apparatus (110) embeds a logic determination bit pattern into a frame of data to be transmitted, and an intensity modulator (116) modulates the intensity of output laser light from a laser (112) in accordance with an output electric signal of the framing device (114). A photodetector (144) and a discriminator (146) of an optical receiving apparatus (140) photo-detects and discriminates, in a binary manner, an optical signal from an optical network (120). A logic determining device (148) determines presence/absence of logic inversion from the logic determination bit pattern.
