PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electron emission element achieving reductions in electron-emissive voltage and consumption power, and stabilizing a long-lasting operation.

SOLUTION: In the electron emission element 1, an electron acceleration layer 4 disposed between an electrode substrate 2 and a thin film electrode 3 contains conductive fine particles 8, insulator fine particles 7 larger than the conductive fine particles 8 in mean diameter, and crystalline electron carrying agent 9. The crystalline electron carrying agent 9 is crystallized to facilitate formation of a current path in the electron emission element 1 to achieve electron emission at a voltage lower than that in a conventional electron emission element.
