PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for reducing the environmental load caused by a waste liquid which is a problem in a chemical treatment with an acid, an alkali or the like, and for reducing a chemical cost and an energy cost when producing ethanol from ligneous biomass. SOLUTION: The saccharifying method of bark by paying attention to the bark includes steps including a mechanical crushing treatment step, a heat treatment step for heating, an opening treatment step for opening the fiber obtained at the heat treatment step, and a saccharification treatment step for saccharifying the fiber dispersion obtained at the opening treatment step with an enzyme, or steps comprising the mechanical crushing treatment step, the heat treatment step, and the saccharification step for saccharifying the fiber dispersion obtained at the heat treatment step with the enzyme. The simultaneously saccharifying and fermenting method for simultaneously carrying out the saccharification treatment step and a fermentation step in the coexistence of a yeast is also provided.
