969,009. Percussive tools. SKIL CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1960 [May 31, 1960], No. 24239/63. Divided out of 969,007. Heading B4C. A rotary hammer comprises a housing 212, Fig. 1, having a rotary cylinder 226 therein, a striker 248 reciprocable in the cylinder, a tool drive member 232 at one end of the cylinder, and a retainer 242 operable to engage a forward facing shoulder 291 (Fig. 2) on a tool 285. The rotary percussive tool shown in Fig. 2 has a carbide tip 287, a hexagonal shank part 289 slidable within the rotary drive member 232 of the hammer and engageable by the hammer striker, and a groove 290 in the shank engageable by a retainer 242. The shank construction shown in Fig. 2 may be applied to a socket for holding a drill. A rotary drill chuck has the hexagonal part of the shank of Fig. 2 shortened so that the striker does not engage and reciprocate the shank. In the chisel shown in Fig. 4 the part 298 of the shank is too small to be driven by the member 232 and a hexagonal part 299 of the shank slides in the fixed nose 238 of the hammer to prevent tool rotation. |
