A change-speed gear for motor cycles, &c. comprises a support plate fast on a shaft and mounting a pawl engageable with a selector plate, a pedal-actuated shaft perpendicular to the first shaft being operatively associated therewith. As shown, a pedal-actuated hollow shaft 26 is oscillated in either direction against the bias of a centralizing spring 30 so that an arm 24 rocks a plate 5 about the axis of a perpendicular shaft 1, a double-acting pawl 7 on the plate thereby being turned against the bias of a spring 22 to step round a selector plate 5 fast upon the shaft 1. An arm 10 of the selector plate 5 engages with a multiple gear which is slidden axially for ratio shift. A spring-biased ball detent retains the selector plate 5 in the ratio-established positions. A kick-start shaft may pass through the pedal-actuated shaft, Fig. 31 not shown. |
