[Also in Division B7] A power unit comprises a crank-shaft 1 journalled at 2 and 6 within the crankcase 4 of the engine, the driving member 9 of a clutch being connected to one end of the crank-shaft and the driven member 10 being connected to a gear 11 freely rotatable upon the crankshaft 1 and in permanent mesh with a gear 12 connected to the input shaft 13 of the change speed gear, an oil-sealed bearing 7 being interposed between the pinion 11 and the wall separating the clutch case 8 from the crankcase 4. A pully 14 for driving accessories, e.g. the fan and dynamo, is mounted on an extension of the crank-shaft beyond the clutch casing and held in place by a screw 15 or a nut incorporating a socket for a starting handle. The engine may have vertical, horizontal or inclined cylinders and a lower or lateral gear box. |
