<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To overcome the problem with some replaceable member such as a toner cartridge for an image forming apparatus having a memory for storing information about the image forming apparatus and toner cartridge, wherein a joining portion provided on an image forming apparatus body and replaceable member and used for electrically joining them may come into contact with parts other than the joining portion of the other replaceable member when the replaceable member is replaced, resulting in damage to gold plating or the like on the contact surface, and degradation in the reliability of electrical connection. <P>SOLUTION: A developing unit 23 freely attached to or detached from the body of the image forming apparatus 100 by its being moved to the direction in which it is attached or detached has a memory section 35 including: a nonvolatile memory 47 storing information about a developing unit 23 and the body of the image forming apparatus 100; and a contact plate 36 for electrically contacting the nonvolatile memory. The main body of the image forming apparatus 100 has a contact member 37 electrically joining the contact plate 36.
