<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain an optical reading device having a color imaging assembly for generating color imaging data at a low price. <P>SOLUTION: An image analysis circuit determines whether an obtained image should be characterized as a color picture or as an image containing a graphical symbol. A processing circuit processes the imaging data based on the determination of whether the image is the graphical symbol or the color picture by the image analysis circuit. A user can obtain and process both a color image and a graphical symbol such as a bar code, text, OCR symbol or signature.
