PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a color separation profile that solves the following problems: the gray colors of highlight/shadow zones are different depending on the shape of an output color gamut, the loss of light source-dependent color balance is caused, and the pseudo contours and glossiness irregularities of a low lightness part are caused. SOLUTION: By using an initial color separation profile and the colorimetry result of a color chip from an image forming apparatus of a signal value for which an output value is sampled, an output color of the image forming apparatus is predicted for a lattice point input value (S703). A change between the predicted output color for the input value of an attention lattice point and the output color predicted for the input value of an adjacent lattice point, a change between the output value of the attention lattice point and the output value of the adjacent lattice point, and a change between a plurality of output colors predicted for the attention lattice point input value at a plurality of different light sources, are evaluated (S704). Until the sum of the evaluation values becomes smaller than a threshold (S705), the attention lattice point input value is changed (S706), and the prediction/evaluation of the output color are repeated by the changed input value. When the sum of the evaluation values becomes smaller than the threshold, the output value of the attention lattice point is updated by the output value corresponding to the calculated input value using the initial color separation profile (S707).
