PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain optical equipment which is not focused on a water droplet or the like adhering to a lens or a protection glass when performing land photography or half-underwater photography immediately after performing underwater photography and can be focused on a subject existing in front of the lens or the protection glass when performing underwater photography. SOLUTION: The optical equipment includes: a photographing means that photoelectrically converts light of a subject image formed by a photographic optical system and takes the subject image; a photographing mode-setting means that sets an underwater photographing mode to the photographing means; a photographing environment detection means that detects photographing environment of the optical equipment; and a shortest photographing distance-setting means that sets the shortest photographing distance of the photographing optical system to the photographing means, wherein the optical equipment further includes: a step of setting the first shortest photographing distance on the basis of the set content by the photographing mode-setting means; and a step of setting the second shortest photographing distance on the basis of a result of detection by the photographing environment detection means.
