PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hot water storage type water heater, capable of performing the optimal energy-saving operation. SOLUTION: The hot water storage type water heater includes a hot water storage tank for storing hot water, a heating means for boiling hot water in the hot water storage tank, and a setting means setting an amount of boiled hot water in the hot water storage tank and having a display part and an operation part. The hot water storage type water heater includes a plurality of boiling modes for setting the amount of boiled hot water in the hot water storage tank. At least one boiling mode among the plurality of boiling modes has a learning function which determines the boiled hot water amount based on the past usage. In the hot water storage type water heater, the boiling mode having the learning function is set as an initial setting of the hot water storage type water heater. After installation of the hot water storage type water heater, changing the boiling mode is prohibited until the boiled hot water amount is determined based on the learning function.
