<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a decomposition method and a decomposition apparatus capable of decomposing a persistent substance including an environmental pollutant difficult to decompose by a conventional method, such as PFC and SF<SB>6</SB>, and an environment pollutant such as a chlorofluorocarbon gas that can be decomposed by a conventional decomposition method made available to date but preferably is to be decomposed at a lower temperature, in a shorter time, and at a higher decomposition rate relative to such a conventional decomposition method. <P>SOLUTION: There are provided the method and apparatus of decomposing the persistent substance including heating a carbon-containing substance that generates hydrogen upon reacting with superheated steam up to a prescribed temperature, activating a material to be decomposed by reducing the activation energy thereof by causing the same to contact the heated carbon-containing substance, and decomposing the activated material to be decomposed by causing the same to contact superheated steam. The activated material to be decomposed is decomposed by hydrolysis caused by superheated steam and/or by a reduction reaction caused by hydrogen generated therein. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT |
