971,621. Time switches. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Oct. 21, 1960 [Oct. 22, 1959], No. 35873/59. Heading H2B. [Also in Division F2] A time-controlled switch has a continuously driven time element, an intermediate member that is moved to alter the time setting and thereafter remains stationary and a switchoperating mechanism linked to the intermediate member, and a manually controlled setting member which by means of a lost motion device both alters the time setting by acting on the intermediate member and also sets the switch. As disclosed, the knob 11 is rotated to move lug 21 which is free until it reaches the end of a slot 22, and during this free movement dog clutch 38, 36 shifts the member 15 axially to open the switch and spring 26 will also be loaded. When the lost motion is taken up further movement of the knob rotates setting disc 13 (and lug 23) and visible indicating disc 12. The time wheel 20, which is continuously driven by the clock mechanism, engages the end 25 of the spring at the set time to close the switch. |
