PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To activate a collision avoiding action against the other vehicle at precise timing after grasping a viewable range of an intersection. SOLUTION: The viewable range capable of viewing a front part from a vehicle is calculated based on a position of an obstacle around the vehicle. The passing speed VT of the vehicle for passing through the intersection without colliding with a moving body approaching the vehicle from the outside of the viewable range is calculated based on a viewable range. Control for avoiding a collision is activated when the present speed VN of the vehicle is lower than the passable speed VT. The maximum stoppable speed VS capable of stopping the vehicle before the vehicle enters the intersection is further calculated, then the activation of control for avoiding the collision is suppressed even if the present speed is lower than the passing speed VT when the present speed VN of the vehicle is lower than the stoppable speed VS. The control of avoiding the collision is activated at appropriate timing while considering speed which can be taken by a driver in response to the viewable range since the passing speed VT is calculated according to the magnitude of the viewable range.
