PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating liquid for generating a polarizing film, which can generate a polarizing film having a high degree of polarization by suppressing the decrease in the degree of polarization even in the case that coating liquid is dried according to the evaporation of a solvent when the polarizing film is generated by casting the coating liquid in a thin film state and then making the solvent to evaporate, and to provide a polarizing film generated from the coating liquid for generating a polarizing film. SOLUTION: The coating liquid for generating a polarizing film contains an azo compound having an anionic group, a solvent for dissolving the azo compound, and an ionic liquid.
