PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens device that is advantageous in terms of miniaturization and reduction of weight of an optical accessory which makes it difficult to shorten a distance between an optical element and a lens on the forefront surface of the lens device because interference of the optical element with a lens protection lens barrel imposes restrictions. SOLUTION: In the lens device, on the subject side of which the optical accessory can be mounted, the lens protection lens barrel at the subject-side end of the lens device retreats in an optical axis direction without changing arrangement of an optical system associated with mounting an optical accessory holding lens barrel that holds the optical accessory, and the optical accessory holding lens barrel is demounted from the lens device, thereby the lens protection lens barrel that has retreated in the optical axis direction is restored to a position set before the optical accessory holding lens barrel is mounted.
