PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite having a photocatalyst layer excellent in photocatalytic activity and also durability which is prepared on the base material and a method for manufacturing the same. SOLUTION: The composite is equipped with a base material and a glass ceramic layer located on the base material. The glass ceramic layer has a crystal phase and a glass phase, and contains, by mol% based on oxides, 5.0-70.0% of TiO<SB>2</SB>component and 5.0-90.0% in total of one or more kinds selected from the group consisting of SiO<SB>2</SB>component, B<SB>2</SB>O<SB>3</SB>component, P<SB>2</SB>O<SB>5</SB>component and GeO<SB>2</SB>component.
