PURPOSE: An apparatus for recognizing tag of a reader in an RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) system and a method thereof are provided to reduce the power consumption rather than an existing method. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(210) establishes a waiting state for turning on or off the power of a transceiving unit(220) and a continuous state for turning on the power of the RF transceiving unit. By the power state, the control unit outputs the power control signal. The control unit transmits a tag search signal turned on and offs in a standby state to a predetermined cycle. If a response is received from a tag(100), the control unit is changed into the continuous state. If a response is not received from the tag, the control unit maintains the waiting state.
