The invention relates to a manifold water meter with a filter or strainer 5 contained in a body casing to allow a maximum filter area to allow a finer filter mesh to be used. The manifold water meter comprises a detachable outlet flow way 24 and a barrier member 4 surrounding a top edge of the inlet 3. The detachable outlet flow way allows for easy cleaning of the sump area 17 of the meter, whilst the barrier or wall area prevents particulate matter in the sump from entering the main flow of water at the inlet 3. Later embodiments relate to a single bodied meter with an outlet flow way attached to a measuring chamber by an internal thread in a cradle housing, with dividing wings at the base, a single bodied manifold meter that has a removable debris containment barrier attached either to an outlet flow way or to spigots within the main body and a measuring cradle having a thread to allow detachment of an outlet flow way from the meter via the base inlet.
