<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a toroidal type continuously variable transmission having an excellent capability of cooling a roller. <P>SOLUTION: A carriage 15 for supporting the roller 14 includes a cover 18 that covers the roller 14. The cover 18 includes a peripheral wall 25 facing to a peripheral surface 14c of the roller 14 and a side wall 24 facing a side surface of the roller 14.
