A body for a motor vehicle comprises a supporting structure (4, 5, 6, figure 1), a hood 3, which is hinged to the supporting structure and comprises a framework (8) and an outer skin 7, and at least one compressible support 9 disposed between the framework of the hood and the supporting structure. A contact surface 20 opposite the support on the hood side is connected to the outer skin by means of a stiffening element 28 extending through a cavity of the framework. The stiffening element and the contact surface may be formed in one piece from the framework, such as being a tongue cut freely from the framework. Alternatively, the contact surface and stiffening element may be inserted in a window of the framework (figure 4). Upon impact with the hood a central discontinuity section 15 of the compressible support may deform before the outer skin 7, thus improving pedestrian head impact criteria. |
