摘要 981,292. Making draw-string bags. D. E. ARNOLD. Dec. 21, 1962 [Sept. 21, 1961; July 18, 1962], Nos. 33762/61 and 27518/62. Heading B5D. [Also in Division B8] A rectangular bag formed by folding at 22 (Fig. 1) a length of material, and stitching it at 23, 24, and which is closed by a drawstring 27 held in a hem 26, is produced in a machine in which the blank of material is conveyed successively in two directions at right angles. In the machine shown in Figs. 3 and 4, material from a roll 46 (Fig. 4) has a hem turned over by a folder 29 and is then cut by a guillotine 49 into lengths which are fed by belts 52 under idler rollers 82 so that the hem can be opened by air jets 98 to permit a draw-string to be fed in. The draw-string is fed through a tube 102 (Fig. 6) adjacent a plate 100 holding the hem open. The draw string is pulled from a roll (not shown) by claws 111 (Fig. 8) which draw the draw-string downwardly against a rotating cutter-wheel 108. During this action the end of the draw-string which has passed the cutter wheel 108 is held by a roller 89 (Fig. 3). The movement of the claw is controlled by a feeler 117 detecting the presence of a bag. The hem 26 (Fig. 1) is then sewn over the draw-string by a machine 35 beneath which the blank is carried by powered rollers 86 sliding the blank over a fixed base. The cottons joining adjacent blanks are then severed by a cutter provided with an air jet which blows the severed ends of the draw strings clear. A further belt conveyer then moves the blank beneath a folding bar 141 which, when the leading edge of the blank registers beneath a photo-electric cell 145, pushes the blank through a slot 148 in a baseplate so that it is carried by rollers 149 (Fig. 11) along a curved base-plate 161. After being thus folded the bag is advanced beneath a sewing head 40 which provides the stitching 24 (Fig. 1) which may incorporate a label 25 laid on the blank by a feed 162. When the blank subsequently registers beneath a photo-electric cell 165 driven rollers 171 are lowered on to it to drive it past a further sewing head 42 which provides the line of stitching 23 (Fig. 1). Further devices 41, 42 are provided for cutting the cottons applied by the machines 40, 42. According to the first Provisional Specification the three lines of stitching 26, 23, 24 are applied on successive lengths of the machine with the direction of motion of the blank changed through a right-angle between each section. This subject-matter does not appear in the Complete Specification.
