<p>Selective oxidation of a carbohydrate (mixture) or composition containing a carbohydrates comprises reacting an aqueous solution of the carbohydrate or composition in presence of oxygen and a gold catalyst containing gold particles in a nano-dispersion on a metal oxide carrier. An independent claim is also included for the oxidation products.</p>
