BIOHERBICIDAL COMPOSITIONS DERIVED FROM LICHENS OR LICHEN FORMING FUNGI

PURPOSE: An herbicidal composition containing lichen, lichen forming fungi, vulpinic acid compound isolated from the fungi, or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof is provided to ensure excellent herbicidal activity with less environmental pollution. CONSTITUTION: An herbicidal composition contains extract of lichen or lichen forming fungi, and vulpinic acid compound isolated from the extract or agriculturally acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. The extract obtained from Usnea aurantiacoatra, Cladonia furcata, Cetraria aculeate, Thamnolia vermicularis, Lethariella zahlbruckneri, Cetraria islandica, Letharia vulpine, Megalospora tuberculosa, Graphis sp., Menegazzia sp., and Physcia sp. The vulpinic acid compound is isolated from Letharia vulpine.
