A logical switching assembly comprises a four-sided frame, opposite sides 3, 4 of which have slots at their upper edges to receive a plurality of parallel strip-like conductors 7 and the remaining sides 5, 6 of which have slots at their lower edges to receive a further plurality of parallel strip-like conductors 8, interconnection being made between selected ones of the conductors 7 and 8 where they cross by components whose terminal leads engage in retaining clips 15 formed in the material of or attached to the strips 7 and 8. The assembly is completed by a further structure comprising an insulating block 25 housing a plurality of transistors, the emitter leads of which are all connected to a common conductor 34 and the collector and base leads of which are connected to selected ones of the strips 7 and 8 respectively. The retaining clips in the strips are preferably formed as shown in Fig. 5, the leads 16 engaged thereby being shown in section. The strips 7 and 8 are provided with holes at their ends and these are aligned with holes running within the sides 3 and 4 along their length so that the strips 7 and 8 may be retained within their slots by means of rods 9 and 10 placed within the holes. The side 3 of the frame, Fig. 4, is provided with a plurality of apertures each of which contains a connecting member which has a part projecting within the frame. Those passing through the lowest apertures 28 are bent downwards to make connection with the common connector 34, those passing through the highest apertures 26 are bent upwards to make contact with respective strips 7 and those passing through apertures 27 make contact with respective conductors of a cableform 37 leading to respective strips 8. The transistors are housed in recesses within the block 25 which is attached to the side 3 and the collector, base and emitter leads therefrom are taken to respective ones of the connecting members within apertures 26, 27 and 28 respectively. Components may be secured in position after insertion by dip-soldering or high-frequency heating. A plurality of these assemblies may be stacked vertically one upon another and held by suitable fastening members. This produces a chimney effect within the assemblies to aid cooling by ventilation. The strips 7 and 8 may alternatively be arranged so that all the strips of one set are turned to lie in the plane of the set, i.e. horizontally in the Figure shown instead of vertically. In this case the clips 15 are replaced by tapering slots in the strips through which the leads 16 pass and are wedged in place. |
