The device (8) has symmetrical plates for simultaneously covering a rear cross-section of brush-holder cages (3) of the device. The cages are respectively located opposite to one another on sides of a metallic washer (1) and an insulating inter-brush washer (2), such that the cages are arranged in a sandwich manner, where each of the cages receives a brush. A pin (100) is placed on the peripheral thickness of the plates, and is engaged on a hole. An independent claim is also included for a starter for a motor vehicle, comprising a hole arranged in a central part of a brush-protected device.
