The present invention concerns a vehicle air conditioning system comprising a main duct for guiding an unconditioned air flow into the vehicle interior, and at least one thermoelectric element being positioned in a cooling section of the main duct such that a cold side of the thermoelectric element is in thermal contact with the air flow through the main duct. For energy dissipation of thermal energy created on the hot side of the thermoelectric element the hot side of the thermoelectric element is in thermal contact with an auxiliary duct while either a cooling liquid or a part of the unconditioned air flow is directed through the auxiliary duct.
