PURPOSE: A device for clamping a rotary shaft of a machine tool is provided to prevent the abrasion of a piston by rapidly returning a clamp pad and piston with unclamped state using an elastic member. CONSTITUTION: A device for clamping a rotary shaft of a machine tool comprises a clamp pad(9), an upper piston(7), a piston rod(8), a hydraulic line(5), and an elastic member(11). The clamp pad clamps a ring gear on the top of a ring gear(4). If the upper piston is upward moved, the upper piston clamps the ring gear along with the clamp pad by pressing the lower side of the ring gear. If the upper piston is moved downward, the upper piston separates from the lower-part of the ring gear and unclamps the ring gear. The piston rod guides the round trip of the upper piston. If the fluid pressure is not provided to a hydraulic line, the elastic member offers returning force in order to separate the upper piston and clamp from the ring gear.
