983,629. Pivot joints; window fastenings. HOPE WORKS Ltd. Feb. 3, 1964 [Feb. 21, 1963], No. 6986/63. Headings E2A and E2F. A pivot joint for a window or like structure comprises a frusto-conical trunnion 12 on a mounting plate 13 engaging with a corresponding socket 14 on a base 11, the frusto-conical surfaces being drawn into frictional engagement by means of a bolt 15 and a spring 16, and a spring loaded locking element 18 movably mounted on the trunnion and engaging with one or more circular recesses 23, 24 on the socket base 11 to prevent relative rotation between the trunnion and socket at two predetermined relative angular positions. Alternatively the locking element may be housed on the socket and the recesses in the trunnion. The locking element comprises a spring loaded plunger 18 housed in a boss 19 whose outer end is cam shaped such that angular movement of the handle 21 produces axial displacement to disengage the socket and trunnion. The spring 22 effects re-engagement of the plunger within the recess. A small arcuate slot 25 is provided to allow relative angular movement between the trunnion and socket through an angle subtended by the two ends of the slot. |
