A vaccine for vaccination of a horse, comprising (i) a naked DNA incorporating at least one nucleic acid coding for an antigenic polypeptide of an agent pathogenic to a horse and expressing said antigenic polypeptide in vivo, and (ii) at least one adjuvant compound; wherein the agent is selected from the group consisting of equine rhinopneumonia virus, equine influenza virus, Cl. tetani, Eastern encephalitis virus, Western encephalitis virus, and Venezuelan encephalitis virus; and wherein the at least one adjuvant compound is selected from polymers of acrylic or methacrylic acid and copolymers of maleic anhydride and ethylene.
