PURPOSE: A poly(arylene ether) copolymer having an sulfonic acid group is provided to enable ion channel formation in the formation of a polymer film and to widen a hydrophobic part, thereby securing dimensional stability against moisture. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a poly(arylene ether) copolymer having an sulfonic acid group represented by chemical formula 3 comprises the steps of: (i) copolymerizing 2,2'-bis(2-hydroxy-5-biphenylyl)propane, at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of chemical formula 4b, and at least one kind of a monomer selected from the group consisting of chemical formula 5b; and (ii) introducing a sulfonic acid group to copolymerized polymer.
