PURPOSE: A display device and method for operating the same are provided to set a moving trace of a remote controller by the interest of a user. CONSTITUTION: If the same moving trace exists in a confirmed moving trace of moving trace information, a control unit extracts a menu item which has the same moving trace from a memory(310,320). The control unit controls the operation corresponding to the extracted menu item(330). If a menu item having the same moving trace does not exist, the control unit controls the display of a help screen(340).
